Laser-cut kit. Model shown assembled using PVA woodglue for strength; superglue and accelerator will allow faster assembly at the general expense of durability.

    Check all components are present: 1 x 3mm ply sheet, 5 x 1.5mm ply sheets, cocktail sticks, plastic pipe & rings, coated wire.

    Remove parts from carrier sheets using a sharp scalpel or craft knife; sand flush any remaining tags or sprue to leave a flat surface.

    Start with Frame Linkage pieces. Fit pieces to one another from left to right (1.5mm H-piece sits perpendicular to 3mm C piece. Mounting rings fit opposite, again, perpendicular). Set aside to dry.

    Assemble four sides of the main drilling tower, applying glue along edges and tags. Fit to Frame Linkage and to 3mm deck  as shown.

    Assemble Drive Linkage as shown and set aside to dry.

    Remove rocker head parts from sprue sheets and knife off/sand all tags.

    Assemble as shown and set aside to dry.

    Fit & glue hoop sections to ladder; set aside to dry.

    Dry fit cocktail stick hinges as shown.

    Make final dry fit of main assemblies and cut off cocktail hinges to length, leaving stubs as shown.

    Decide on position of rocker head; this will determine the length of coated wire needed. Form one end of the wire to suit however much of the rocker is in contact with the wire.  Dry fit only at this stage.

    Assemble pipe & ring sections to size & proportions required. Dry fit only at this stage.

    With entire assembly in final position, apply glue to all moving joints for permanence and strength. Fit ladder in place.

    Spray prime entire model with Halfords red oxide primer. Paint topcoat in patchy manner, leaving exposed areas to suggest rust. Using standard weathering techiques and rust-effect pigments this entire display model was sprayed and finished within an hour.
